Anyone arriving in Talloires-Montmin via the port road, contemplating its bay for the first or hundredth time, is irresistibly drawn to the colors of Lake Annecy. Then comes the contemplation of the surrounding mountains, green, adorned with the colors of autumn or dusted with snow, depending on the weather and the season.

The spectacle is permanent and accessible to everyone, anywhere in the world, thanks to the installation of a webcam on the roof of the Auberge du Père Bise, offering a live 360° view of Lake Annecy, the bay of Talloires-Montmin, the port, and the slopes of the Roc de Chère nature reserve. A world apart, promising escape at the foot of the mountains, and a gift from the Sulpice family to transport you to another region and horizon in just a few clicks.

Panoramic view of Lake Annecy

Click, breathe in, and admire. You are transported to Haute-Savoie, to Talloires-Montmin, a stone’s throw from Geneva, at the crossroads of the Bauges massif, the Vanoise National Park, and the Chamonix Valley, at the foot of Mont Blanc. Before your eyes: Lake Annecy. More precisely, its southern part, often referred to as the “little lake,” the most secret and wildest part of the lake.

On the webcam, the tour of the lake begins in the south, with the Dents de Lanfon, then sweeps across the Tournette, the unmissable peak of the Bornes-Aravis massif and the Annecy area, and glides over the Bauges massif to the Pointe de la Sambuy.

In line with the Auberge du Père Bise and the two-star gourmet restaurant Jean Sulpice, admire the Taillefer mountain and spot the village of Duingt and then the Château de Ruphy. Also known as Châteauvieux, the site once occupied a prominent position on the historic Roman road that linked Geneva and Moutiers. Just above, discover the Roc des Bœufs and the slopes of the Entrevernes mountain, popular with hikers for its superb views of Lake Annecy.

With La Forclaz and Auberge du Père Bise behind you, continue your virtual exploration and read about the surrounding landscapes on the eastern side of the lake. Here is Crêt de Châtillon, at an altitude of 1,702 meters, the highest peak of the 16-kilometer-long Semnoz mountain. You have now arrived at Roc de Chère, a nature reserve that marks the border between the “big lake” and the small lake.

On foot, you have to take a surprising footbridge along the lake, then a steep path to reach the site. Once used by monks from the abbey to collect wood, the route climbs through the forest to offer superb views of the lake.

Take a last look at the pier, close to the landing stage, which still allows you to travel by boat between the city of Annecy and Talloires. Linger along the port and imagine the place in 1896, following in the footsteps of the painter Paul Cézanne, who spent a summer here. The landscape inspired him to paint The Blue Lake, a painting now owned by the Courtauld Gallery in London, which made the region famous long before the invention of the webcam…
