An ancient practice from Scandinavia, the sauna is a dry heat bath maintained between 80 and 90°C. It acts as a real recovery booster: by dilating blood vessels, it stimulates circulation and speeds up metabolism, helping to eliminate toxins more efficiently. It promotes physical recovery after exertion, deeply relaxes the muscles, reduces soreness, and supports deep, restorative sleep. Regular sessions also benefit the skin and strengthen the immune system over time.
Highly valued by athletes, the sauna is one of the most popular areas in the spa at Auberge du Père Bise. Entirely built in spruce wood, it offers a soothing resinous scent and, uniquely, a wide view of the surrounding forest. Set up with two levels of benches for added comfort, it’s a place for deep reconnection—to slow down, release tension, and restore inner balance. Accessible from age 16 and up.
Enhanced Recovery Benefits
To get the most from your sauna session, start with a lukewarm shower before entering. Settle in calmly and stay for 5 to 12 minutes, depending on your comfort. After sweating, exit slowly and take a lukewarm or cold shower. You can also swim a few laps in the pool, try one of the three sensory shower experiences, or step out onto the terrace to enjoy the outdoor Nordic bath.
For a revitalizing hot-cold circuit, the more adventurous can go straight into the cold plunge or even take a dip in Lake Annecy. Guaranteed invigorating effect!
Afterward, take time to rest and hydrate before starting another round. Two to three sessions are generally recommended to feel the full benefits of the sauna.
