Stage 3.
In the footsteps of Jean Sulpice

Explore the Alps

Need to get away from it all, enjoy the great outdoors, and go on sporting adventures between the lake and the mountains? Follow in the footsteps of chef Jean Sulpice, a native of the region, tireless hiker, and seasoned cyclist, to discover his favorite routes and viewpoints around Annecy.

Just a few minutes from the Auberge du Père Bise, you can reach the Col de la Forclaz, which offers breathtaking views of the lake and the Annecy basin. It is also a mecca for paragliding in Europe (information available at reception).

Accessible on foot from the Auberge du Père Bise, along the Le 1903 restaurant and the cove of Talloires-Montmin Bay, the Roc de Chère massif can be reached via a charming path along the water’s edge, once used by the monks of the abbey. A nature reserve, the Roc de Chère connects Talloires to Menthon-Saint-Bernard. The walk (about 2 hours) is spectacular, but make sure you are properly equipped, as the start is quite steep.

From the 5-star hotel, you can also visit the Angon waterfall, a beautiful 60-meter waterfall. Experienced hikers, with or without a guide (information available at reception), can test their calves on a 4.5-hour hike from the Col de la Forclaz to the Chalet de l’Aulp, or, for an even greater challenge, attempt to climb the Tournette.

For cyclists, there’s nothing better than the Col de l’Arpettaz, at an altitude of 1,581 meters. The chef’s favorite pass, it is one of the most beautiful climbs in Savoie. It follows a picturesque road with almost no traffic, as the pass is home to only one refuge chalet, the starting point for beautiful walks or mountain bike rides around Mont Charvin.

If you’re tempted by adventure or just want to enjoy a bike ride around Lake Annecy (about 2 hours), the Auberge du Père Bise has its own fleet of Scott electric bikes (for men, women, children, and/or trailers).

Stage 4.
Between Culture, Heritage, and Outdoor Activities

Visiting Annecy and Haute-Savoie

In addition to hiking and cycling, many other activities are offered by the Auberge du Père Bise or easily arranged by our team: helicopter flights over Mont Blanc, horseback riding, fitness sessions, via ferrata, caving, canyoning, water skiing, fishing, golf, guided heritage tours of Annecy’s old town, treetop adventure parks, educational farms, and more.

In winter, it’s easy to reach nearby ski resorts such as Le Grand-Bornand, La Clusaz, Semnoz, Les Saisies, or La Sambuy to enjoy downhill skiing, ski touring, cross-country skiing, sledding, or snowshoe hikes.

For those passionate about history, folklore, and legendary buildings, the area around the Auberge du Père Bise also offers many iconic sites to explore, such as the Château de Menthon-Saint-Bernard, the Château d’Annecy, the Château de Montrottier, Tamié Abbey, or the Paccard Bell Museum. Local farms, markets, and artisan workshops are also well worth a visit—just ask the reception for recommendations. Babysitting and dogsitting services available on request.
